Utility to Trace

Hi!

Is there a software or utility that can be installed on a pc to test emails delivery to Exchange 2010 and its results? We are having problem sending scanned documents to Exchange E-Mails using Exchange IP Addresses both Lan and Wan. It shows unable to connect to exchange and authentication failure. The is happening in our remote branches connected by vpn. When we telnet to exchange from a pc it works fine. We need to test the connectivity locally from a PC and not by Exchange Connectivity Analyzer Web Version.

Thanks.

Hybrid Mail Flow

There is a hybrid environment with exchange 2010.

Some users mailboxes on exchnage online, some others in on-prem exchange.

My question is;

when a user from external domain send mail to my  domain where mailbox is on exchange online not in on-prem.

--mail comes my firewall to check this user on my on-prem or not ...and then ? if not ? how this flow works ?

Transport Rule to fetch all mails for second maildomain except certain user adresses - how to achieve?

Hi There,

i have the following problem here, which drives me nuts. can't find a solution up now.

i have 2 maildomains on our exchange server. domain1.com and domain2.com. certain users on domain1.com have the domain2.com domain as a secondary mailadress listed.

i need a transport rule which checks incoming email and if it's for any @domain2.com adress AND NOT for the few specific users with the additional @domain2.com adress sends those emails to a specific mailbox.

basically i want sort of a "catch all" rule for unknown recipients for this specific domain2.com maildomain.

thus far i tried a rule which checks the mailheaders "to" for "domain2.com" but this seems not to work. we have a similar rule for the domain1.com maildomain but it checks the "to" header for a specific domain1.com adress - this works.

i hope it's clear, what i want ;-) i hope there is someone who can give me a helping hand or some hint!

regards

Mark

Message Size Limit Issue - OverAdvertisedSize

Hi All,

We are experiencing an issue with our Exchange 2013 server when attempting to send external emails over 9MB.

ALL transport settings/limits have been set to 32MB (via EAC), as well as the Internal + External "DsnMaxMessageAttachSize" (via EMS).

Also, there are no size restriction limits on the individual user mailboxes.

Note: We can send internal emails up to 32MB, it's just external emails that are failing.

Version: Microsoft Exchange 2013 Enterprise (64-bit), Version 15.0 (Build 913.22)
**Updating to latest CU later this week

Please let me know if you require any further information to assist.

Thanks in advanced for any advice offered to help resolve this issue.

I will post screenshots once my account is verified.

Message Stuck in Submission Queue with Status Active

$

Hello,

I'm facing a strange problem where messages remain in submission queues with status "Active" and do not get delivered to the mailboxes.

Since the queue is a submission queue, everything points to the categorizer. Moreover, those messages suddently get delivered after half an hour appoximately.

There are many transport rules in the organization that are complex and long. This is causing the transport service to take one and a half minutes to start. Can these rules be the cause of the problem?

Furthermore, the messages that get stuck in the submission have certain recipients that are used in the transport rules in order to decide to act on the message or not.

Let me give an example of the rules:
If the message is from [long list of addresses] and the recipient is [member of distribution group or mailbox] then remove the message.

And one last thing, the actions on the rules are BCC and Remove. As far as I know, the remove action has to be the only action on a rule, those rules were probably migrated that way, should I update them and use the redirect transport action?

Thanks in advance,

Christos

Failed delivery of fax email sent from external source to internal distribution group

Hi,

My client uses a 3rd party fax service to deliver faxes to emails.

They have two fax numbers

One fax number forwards email to a full account mailbox and works.

The other number forwards faxes to a distribution group and fails.

I checked the message tracking logs and can see email from the fax address fails due to "Content Filter Agent"

I created a rule to bypass the spam filter for email from the fax service address but when I tested it still failed.

I am unsure what step to take next to troubleshoot this issue.  I would be grateful if someone can assist me?

Thank you in advance.

SPF Record - not permitted sender?

$

Hello,

I'm having a headache of a time with my SPF record. I have validated with various tools and it checks out at least in terms of format/syntax.

The SPF record for the domain has ip4 addresses in CIDR. The sending IPs fall within a range of /24 for example however I'm still getting the below. It could be a mail relay or other server but it's not indicated via CIP in the message header. I only have the originating/source IP and evidence is presented within the header.

Received-SPF None (protection.outlook.com: smtpmailserver does not designate permitted sender hosts)

The SPF record for example:

v=spf1 ip4:16X.XX.XX ip4:20X.XX.XX.X/24 ip4:10.XX.XX.X/24 ip4:19X.XX.XX.X/24 include:spf.protection.com -all

Any thoughts as to why the originating ips don't get accepted despite falling with that range?

Exchange 2013 - create send connector from Edge to internal MB server (non-subscribed)

$

We have created a new Exchange organization in a resource forest that runs parallel to our corporate installation. Both system are running Exchange 2013. I want to have both systems use the same  Edge servers (also 2013).
- Lets call the original Exchange installation CORP
- Lets call the new Exchange installation RESOURCE

The Edge servers are subscribed to the CORP systems. I am trying to get a new send connector on the Edge servers to send a certain mail domain to the RESOURCE system. I created a new connector using ECP on the CORP system and see it has replicated to the Edge servers. When I send a message that will go through the new connector deliver fails stating that the Client does not have permissions to send as this sender.  ( 5.7.1 smtp;550 )

I configured the Edge server send-connector to use Basic Authentication AFTER starting TLS. I have an account created in the RESOURCE forest and entered it and credentials on the send connector. I am sending on port 2525 to send to the Default receive connector (HUB) on the internal mailbox server (RESOURCE system).

On the receive connector I checked the Basic Authentication option along with the Offer basic authentication only after starting TLS. ( default hub transport - receiving on port 2525 )
I made sure that the certificate chains are present on all the servers to insure certificate validation.

I read the following links in preparation for making the above changes:
- https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232082%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx

After I get the inbound messages delivering to the RESOURCE system I will then create an outbound send-connector on the RESOURCE MB server with an associated receive-connector on the Edge servers (also BASIC Authentication)

Any suggestions for getting around the issue?  --  the Client does not have permissions to send as this sender.  ( 5.7.1 smtp;550 )
Should I be using a receive connector other than the Default Hub Transport receive connectgor?
Will adding Basic Authentication to this recive connector adversely impact any other default Exchange routing?
Does the AD account used for the  Basic Authentication require any special permissions?

Anxious to hear how bad I messed things up  :)

Thanks in advance
Tom

OPEN RELAY

Hi all,

I now have exchange 2010 configured and mail flow is all good however I can see some senders sending out who are not part of the internal organisation therefore I must have configured the receive connector to be an open relay!

Am I correct in assuming it is the setting under Permission Groups called anonymous users (ticked) that is making it an open relay?

The problem is, the third party cloud spam filter company have said the connector MUST have anonymous users ticked.

Can anyone help please?

Possibilities to route mail between 3 Different Exchange Organizations sharing the same default SMTP mail domain

$

Hi,

I need some help conceptualizing something that is puzzling me currently..

Basic scenario we have is

Company A, Company B and Company C are "merging" (for want of a better word)

The objective is to have a common "shared mail domain" e.g. newsmtpdomain.com that we will/should all be able to SendAs and receive mail to.

There are lots of examples, of achieving mail domain sharing (routing) between two Exchange organizations..  by setting up the primarySMTP domain as "InternalRelay" on both Exchange Organizations and then introducing a SendConnector to the"other" one .. so any mail not destined for a "local" recipient on the "first Exchange organization" (whichever that is) .. the mail would then be delivered to the other Exchange organization for delivery.

However.. is it possible to utilize a similar approach to be able to route mail between  the 3 Exchange organizations ?

I'm thinking along the lines of mail arrives at Company A's Exchange org... and it maybe has two send connectors.. one to Company B Exchange Org.. and one to Company C Exchange Org..   and a mail arrives for someone at Company C... Company A exchange server will know that the user is not local.. so try SendConnector for Company B... if Company B does not allow relay (as the user is unknown there too...) then Company A SendConnector to Company C is utilized ...  and Company C .. knows about the local user there and accepts delivery..

Failing the above possibility my other idea is to have a mixture of mailboxes (local users), contacts/mail-enabled users (users in the other two Exchange organization) in all three Exchange organizations .. with targetAddresses set to a subdomain of the newsmtpdomain...  and then route the incoming mail around.. dependent upon the new subdomain SMTP addresses..  but for this I obviously need good dirsync between all three environments..  .. what would peoples opinions be on MS Federation gateway service.. to provide this ?? (sync'd contact lis...) etc ?

any thoughts/tips .. would be most welcome..  (of yeah I forgot to mention) all three Exchange environments are different vers of Exc.  we have Company A on 2010 SP3, Company B on 2013 and Company C on 2016   (not sure that would make much difference in the proposed solution ?)
